The John Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act (S. 47) included over 100 national park and public lands bills that increased protections for dozens of national park sites and landscapes. Two new national monuments, managed by the National Park Service, were created; five special resource studies were authorized to study potential new park sites to diversify the system; over 370,000 acres bordering parks were withdrawn from damaging mineral extraction; 43,000+ acres of land were added to the National Park System; and over 1.3 million acres of wilderness lands were federally protected. A vote in favor of the measure is the pro-parks vote.
