Take Action

Dear Friend of the National Parks,

The funding situation is becoming worse for our beloved national parks. Can you take just a few minutes to help improve the situation by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper today?

In the temporary funding measure that just passed Congress, the national parks budget has just been cut by $100 million! And as the spending debate continues, NPCA is deeply concerned about the potential for additional cuts to our national parks. This cut will mean less funding to protect historical treasures, to purchase properties threatened by development within park boundaries, and nearly $50 million less for construction and maintenance projects.

As it is, our national parks are failing to keep up with maintenance needs; the maintenance backlog is now nearly $11 billion. But that's not all. They are short on funding for staff and resources to operate parks--to the tune of more than $600 million each year! Our national parks are already making do with less--they simply can't afford additional cuts.

We need your help in keeping them from getting cut again.

Take Action: Please take a few minutes to draft a quick letter to the editor of your local paper. Write a few sentences about why national parks are important to you and finish by asking others to call Congress to prevent further cuts to the national park budget.

If a few letters like yours can be written across the country, we're sure it will help provide the momentum we need to keep our national parks from falling into disrepair! You have a proven record of taking action to protect national parks. Thank you once more for speaking up!
