Speak Up to Protect Park Funding Before March 1

capitol_150x210.jpg

Send a Message to the president and Congress!

Take Action

Dear Friend of the National Parks,

Hundreds of campfire stories. Thousands of history lessons. Billions of dollars for local economies. All of this--and so much more--is at risk if the president and Congress do not stop the budget sequester by March 1. The National Park Service has been asked to prepare for a $110 million across-the-board “sequester” cut--and new information indicates that no park is safe: From Yellowstone to Cape Cod, from the Grand Canyon to the Great Smoky Mountains, millions of visitors to our most treasured places will feel the immediate impact of the cuts.

This means there is a real threat to our parks and park experiences--reductions to visitor services and hours of operation, shortened seasons--even closures due to staff reduction. This is serious.

Please take a moment and join thousands of Americans in speaking out against this cut.

The Park Service budget is far less than 1 percent of the federal budget. It is not the cause of our deficit problems and cutting it further would not be the solution.

Studies show that every dollar invested in the National Park System generates about $10 in economic activity... and that every two Park Service jobs create one job in the private sector outside the parks. In 2010 alone, our national parks generated more than $31 billion and 258,000 jobs.

Take Action: Tell President Obama and Congress to protect our parks and our shared heritage--and the family vacations and local economies that depend on them--by finding a more balanced solution to our deficit problem.

Time is running out and your action before the March 1 deadline will help pressure lawmakers to come to an agreement.

Thank you for speaking up to protect the parks.

Sincerely,

John Garder
